I was watering the plants, just the routine thing, when he came out and pressed up against me from behind. Nobody could see from street level. The balcony was private on two sides. I thought we were safe.

He pushed my shorts down while I was still holding the watering can. I had to set it down fast because he was already pushing into me, backing me up against the railing. My hands gripped the edge and I was trying not to make noise because it was Saturday afternoon and people were out, but he was slamming into me like he didn’t care.

I could see into the neighbor’s balcony across the courtyard.

They could see into ours.

The neighbor was carrying groceries in when they looked up and just froze. Their eyes met mine. I was bent over the railing with my boyfriend inside me and our neighbor across the courtyard just staring.

I should have been mortified. I was. But I was also so turned on.

The neighbor had a bag of groceries in their hands and they just waved. Actually waved at me like we were passing on the street and not like I was getting fucked against a railing where they had a perfect view.

I waved back.

He felt me clench around him, felt the moment I realized we’d been seen, and he started moving harder, faster, like the audience turned him on. The neighbor went inside their apartment but not before I saw them smile.

He came right after that, hard and deep, his hand on the back of my neck pinning me in place.

“They’re gonna know what we were doing,” I whispered.

He pulled out, fixed himself. Grabbed the watering can.

“I know,” he said. “Finish the plants.”

Now I water the plants every Saturday at four-thirty. Their blinds are always open.
